We take pride in our diversity of skills and expertise and are
capable of undertaking virtually any request made by our clients. Set out below
are a few representational matters which fall outside of the principal practice
areas discussed above.
- We act
as special advisor to the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry in
connection with its activities to promote and address international and
domestic trade issues. Recently, we have been asked to consider the
consequences of the application of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
(GATT) to Saudi Arabia and to advise the General Secretary of the Chamber in
connection therewith.
- In
August of 1992 we were contacted by the authorized representatives of the
Somalia interim government to prepare a feasibility study for the establishment
of a Consultant Group to assist the government in the formulation of an
economic recovery plan for the country, assist in the location and distribution
of humanitarian aid and help develop an international consensus to contribute
to the development of the country's internal economic and political
stability.
- One of
our clients was interested in purchasing an existing industrial enterprise in
Saudi Arabia and at his request we carried out a comprehensive review of the
economic viability of such acquisition as well as preparing all the required
legal documentation and obtaining the necessary governmental
approvals.
- For
several years we have assisted a U.S. based telecommunications company
interested in satellite broadcasting into the Middle East, identifying regional
market factors for consideration in the company's business plan, advising on
relevant legal matters relating to the establishment of local broadcast up-link
facilities and assisting with the placement of venture capital to fund the
venture.
- At the
request of a major client we undertook the acquisition of a private aircraft
and the development of a comprehensive maintenance and operation contract for
it. This involved lengthy negotiations with the U.S. based manufacturer of the
aircraft, drafting of the purchase agreement and financing documents,
negotiations with the aircraft operator and the development of a customized
aircraft technical services and operational management agreement.
- During
1993-94 we acted for the Saudi Arabian National Guard in connection with the
handover of the King Khalid National Guard Hospital in Jeddah from the existing
contractor to a new contractor. As part of such representation, we assisted in
the negotiation and drafting of the O&M Contract for the Hospital Complex
and advised the National Guard on numerous issues arising out of the handover
process.
- We
represented a client who wished to acquire shares of a certain international
corporation held by a Saudi investor. On the client's behalf we prepared and
presented a financial proposal to the investor valuing the shares based on
historical performance data of the company.
